By this time I had decided on a 5 speed conversion from Classic Chevy Five Speed, the TKO-600. Other than the dramatically improved gearing over the Muncie M-21, the TKO-600 is also rated at 600 lb-ft of torque, a number I dreamed at reaching someday (can you say EFI turbo?). Calculating the first gear and tire diameter left me with a top speed of 40 MPH at my engine redline of 6200 if I went with the 3.73 gear while still allowing cruising at 65 MPH at about 1600 RPM. I ordered a Richmond Gear from Summit and Dad and I got to work. The rear end was stripped down quickly enough and we had that powder-coated as well before re-assembling it. Another nice surprise was the Eaton Posi in the differential housing with the busted-tooth 4.11 gears that resided there when I purchased the car.
