AFR Cylinder Heads at Last!

I was leaning toward using the Holley Stealth Ram with the Commander 950 ECU which was compatible with the L98 TPI block, which has the same intake bolt pattern as my 1975 Camaro block that was in the car. While the HSR is available with a Vortec pattern intake, I was looking on eBay for a used HSR system and most of them were of the traditional intake bolt pattern. Then I found some custom AFR heads on eBay. Someone had AFR port their 195 street heads for a 64 cc combustion chamber and the heads were mine, preassembled with stainless steel valves and high lift springs for $1100. According to “Small Block Chevy Engine Buildups” by Chevy High Performance, these heads flow 244 on the intake and 188 on the exhaust at 0.400”, and they don’t require the Vortec intake so I could use the standard Holley Stealth Ram in their EFI kit with the Commander 950 ECU. The AFR 190 cylinder heads weighed in 32.4 lbs each, while the Chevy 186 castings weighed in at 46.2 lbs each. That’s a total of 27.6 lbs off the front end of the car, which should help weight distribution and handing for autocrossing, but is considerably less than the 40-45 lbs often quoted for weight loss when switching to aluminum heads from original cast iron heads.
